About

ProText Film is dedicated to bringing you independent films that you will want to have in your personal library.

Our first offering is a dynamic short film created by filmmaker Stephen Williams called “Blessing” and has been shown at many film festivals where it has moved open minded audiances all around the world.  This is a must have for your personal library. Blessing deals with the religious dilema of a family with a gay son “David”, played by Scott Smith, now living with his partner, who comes home to the family because his father has recently had a serious heart attack.  In this film the family and religious leader struggle with how to handle whether or not too allow their son, brother and friend David to participate in a very sacred family blessing according to the Chruch of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons).

“Blessing packs a powerful punch and delineates the path that filmmaking about Mormon experience must likely take if it is to eventually appeal to braoder audience. Williams’…touch is both subtle and forceful.” Catalyst Magazine, October 2003 issue, p. 94

Stephen is in the early production of a film that is destined to be another film festival participant and big hit amoung fair minded people who agree that the stories of the struggles of gay Mormon men need to be told.  This next film will portray a well respected Mormom man that has secretly been hiding his gay life and living a dual life crusing and meeting up with other gay men. Dear Stephen,

I haven’t seen your films yet, but I’m glad you are making them. I was a member of the LDS Church from 1983-88. I do not regret leaving but I’m greatful for the time I had in the Mormon church. It’s a great institution but it does need to learn to recognise and respect difference. I look forward to seeing your work in future. Regards Tracey H. Canada
