Blessing – An independent film by Stephen Williams – is an important film dealing with the subject of including a gay Mormon family member in a sacred family ordinance, a priesthood blessing. This forum is for people to discuss their responces to the film. The official website for the film is http://protextfilms.com, and this blog is embedded in that website. |
Stephen Williams is doing a reading of his current project at Utah Pride, June 2, 2007.
I do not understand much about the gay community. I know this much, that each person is a child of God and it is his desire to help each one of us return to him. I do not have that issue in my family, but I have often wondered what and how I would deal with it should I have to. The bishop in my mother’s ward gave a presentation about gays and it was the conclusion at the end of his presentation, that these people were fighting a battle of their own. It was also noted that we, as a people, should help them in any way that we can especially if they are trying to live the gospel. He also stated that there are some limitations, but if they are resisting tempation to have that kind of a relationship, they should have all of the priesthood powers that are given to those who also resist other types of temptations. I would love to see this film and if it is what the summaries have stated, it would help all of us to deal with this type of problem. I think not understanding causes much of the alienation gays receive. Please let me know who I can view this film.
